A heart-stopping video captures the shocking moment a shoplifting suspect allegedly aimed a gun at an Ohio police officer at point-blank range inside a Walmart — only to be thwarted when the weapon seemingly jammed and a store security guard stepped in.
The tense incident erupted Thursday in Canton after authorities say the suspect and a woman were caught allegedly stealing items from the store.
The two were escorted to a security room, where a police officer is seen questioning and searching the male suspect, identified by FOX 8 as 21-year-old Shane Newman.
Footage from the officer’s body camera, left on a table, first shows a seemingly calm scene: a Walmart employee handing the officer a pen and paper while the two suspects sit on a bench.
Moments later, the scene erupted into chaos.
Suddenly, Newman spun around, drew a gun, and tried to shoot the officer as the woman screamed, "No, no, no!" A sharp clicking sound echoed as the trigger was pulled—but nothing fired.
The Walmart worker tackled Newman in a desperate attempt to stop him, yet he raised the gun once more and pulled the trigger—again, only a hollow click sounded.

The employee then yanked the gun from Newman’s hands just as the officer drew his weapon, shouting, "Get back! Get back!"
The officer sprang into action, holding Newman down on the floor until additional officers arrived, and both suspects were finally taken into custody.
In the bodycam footage, the officer told responding police that Newman had 'pulled the gun out, pointed it at my head, and pulled the trigger'—but the weapon failed to fire.
According to the officer, he had his weapon ready to fire at Newman but held back, worried he could accidentally hit the Walmart employee struggling to take the gun away.
He also admitted he initially missed the gun tucked inside Newman’s shoulder bag during the first search.
The officer said he had been notified just seconds before the attack that Newman had an active warrant and was considered "armed and dangerous."
Court records show Newman has been charged with attempted murder and felonious assault on a police officer.

FOX 8 reports that Katerina Jeffrey was charged with aiding in a robbery and illegally possessing ammunition while prohibited from having weapons.
Moments before the attack, the officer questioned Newman about whether he had anything on him as part of the search.
Newman insisted he only had a cellphone, yet he voluntarily produced a small container from his pocket—investigators say it held illegal drugs, FOX 8 reported.
Jeffrey turned to the officer and asked, "Are we going to jail?"
The officer replied, "Not unless something crazy happens."
