NYC mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani may soon face an unusual immigration fight—his own. Two House Republicans are calling on the Justice Department to investigate his citizenship and could even try to have him removed from the U.S.
Rep. Randy Fine (R-Fla.) demanded last week that federal authorities “review every naturalization of the past 30 years – starting with Mamdani.”
“I just think we need to take a hard look at how these folks became citizens, and if there is any fraud or any violation of the rules we need to denaturalize and deport,” Fine said.

He also called for an investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), the Somali-born ‘Squad’ member and one of the first Muslim women ever elected to Congress, citing her anti-Israel positions.
Mamdani is a threat to the nation, he continued. “I know that there’s a lot of us that are very, very concerned about the enemy within – people who have come to this country to become citizens, to destroy it.”
He shrugged off concerns about the complications of revoking citizenship from naturalized Americans in office. "If they’re not Americans, they can’t be in office," he declared.
Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) has pushed since June for a Justice Department investigation into Mamdani, accusing the socialist leader in NYC’s mayoral polls of lying on his sworn naturalization documents in 2018.
Ogles issued a call to “Deport Mamdani!” and branded him an “antisemitic, socialist, communist who will destroy the great City of New York.”
“In 2018 when he was naturalized, he failed to disclose some of the things that he had been doing, one of which was joining the [Democratic] Socialists of America. That’s a communist organization which, quite frankly, at that time, would have disqualified him from becoming a United States citizen,” Ogles told Newsmax.

He cited Mamdani’s statements urging the release of the ‘Holy Land Five,’ Palestinian-Americans who led the prominent Muslim charity Holy Land Foundation and were found guilty in 2008 of sending millions of dollars to Hamas.
U.S. immigration law bars anyone who has "been a member of or affiliated with the Communist or any other totalitarian party." The naturalization form asks applicants if they’ve ever had any ties to such parties. President Trump has called Mamdani a "communist lunatic," but Mamdani denies it.

Officials at the Justice Department haven’t ruled out an investigation into Mamdani.
"Due to the Democrats’ shutdown, congressional correspondence is delayed. The department does not comment on the status of ongoing or potential investigations,” a DOJ spokesperson.

Mamdani sparked outrage when he posted a smiling photo on X with controversial imam Siraj Wahhaj, named an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing that claimed six lives.
Mamdani has remained silent, declining to comment on the matter.
