Chicago Principal Defends Teacher Behind Shocking Charlie Kirk Gesture — but Stays Silent on Her Actions

A Chicago school principal portrayed a teacher who went viral for seemingly mocking Charlie Kirk’s shooting as the victim — but conveniently left out any mention of her own actions.

Lucy Martinez, a teacher at Nathan Hale Elementary School, was caught on camera making a gun gesture — running a finger across her neck as if pulling the trigger — during a “No Kings” protest in Chicago over the weekend.

Her gesture — widely viewed as mocking last month’s assassination attempt on conservative influencer Charlie Kirk — quickly sparked backlash.

Nathan Hale Elementary Principal Dawn Iles-Gomez blasted “threats” against the teacher in a letter to parents seen by The Post — but stayed silent on what the teacher actually did or whether she was disciplined.

“We were recently made aware of social media posts with language that resemble a potential threat to a staff member,” the letter reads.

“We take all potential threats extremely seriously to ensure the safety of our school community. The Chicago Police Department (CPD) and the CPS Office of Safety and Security have been notified, and CPD is currently investigating this situation further,” Iles-Gomez continued.

She said Chicago police would provide “extra safety support” before and after school “out of an abundance of caution.” The story exploded online, drawing outrage from all sides. “Her fat a– needs to be fired,” Megyn Kelly fumed on her SiriusXM show this week.

"The school is making Martinez out to be a victim without even acknowledging her vile behavior mocking Charlie Kirk," wrote Derrick Evans, a former West Virginia delegate and convicted Jan. 6 rioter, on X.

Rumors swirled that Martinez had been fired — but the principal’s note makes it clear she’s still on the school’s payroll.

Nathan Hale Elementary declined to comment when contacted for this story.

Officials with the Chicago Police Department were approached for comment as well.

"Lucy Martinez, a K-8 teacher mimicking Charlie Kirk’s death at the No Kings protest. These people want you to care about a group chat leak," actor Braeden Sorbo tweeted, referencing the recent controversy over a Young Republicans chat filled with Hitler praise and rape jokes.
