The United States Automobile A-sociation started as a company to provide car insurance to Army officers. Over the years, it’s developed into a company that provides not only auto insurance but also homeowners, renters, health, and life insurance to officers and enlisted personnel across all military branches. USAA is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, and has over 13 million members.
It also serves retired members of the military and those separated with an honorable discharge. Cadets and midshipmen are eligible to become members, as are officer candidates within 24 months of commissioning.
Families of all these military personnel can get coverage with USAA, too. This includes widows and widowers. Un-remarried former spouses of USAA members qualify if they and their former spouse had insurance while they were married. Children of active and retired military USAA members are also eligible for coverage.
