A homeowners insurance policy from Michigan Insurance Company protects your home and personal belongings from damage caused by a variety of covered risks. Michigan Insurance Company homeowners policies provide additional coverage for garages and other buildings on the property, household and personal possessions, additional living expenses, personal liability and medical payments, among others. Their policies also cover medical bills and legal fees in case a guest gets hurt or their property is damaged at your home.
Pricing was great, but customer service was atrocious. Last summer we did quite a bit of work on the house, and I replaced part of the roof because that section was starting to get beat up by the weather a bit. They came and did a random inspection and gave us a list of things that needed to be replaced/fixed, and the majority I absolutely agreed with but then they said the roof also needed to be replaced. Long story shortened a bit, the roof didn’t get replaced, they threatened to drop us from coverage, and then instead of dropping us they increased the monthly price by $30. A roofer looked at the roof and said it didn’t looked in as bad of shape as they made it sound, and the cost to replace the roof was $10,000 upwards, so we took the increase and stayed with the company for the rest of the year.
I had insurance through Michigan Insurance Company, which I got through the BKC agency while I was married. I went there because that's where my in-laws had their insurance through and they gave BKC glowing reviews. BKC ran my info and matched me up with Michigan Insurance Company. It was a full coverage policy, but still, it always seemed really expensive to me. Later on when I switched companies, I was surprised to find out how much more I had been paying through Michigan Insurance, and how much money I could have been saving somewhere else. They don't give most of the discounts that other agencies do. Plus, when I got divorced and I went to cancel my policy through them, their customer service department made it extremely difficult. They wanted my ex-husband to go down there and sign off on cancelling the policy, when he wasn't even part of the policy (he was an excluded driver because he didn't even have a license, and the insurance wasn't even in his name). I will never be a customer of theirs again.
