Your proof of insurance documentation is that little card given to you by your insurance carrier that shows you indeed have insurance on your vehicle. It is sometimes referred to as an auto insurance card, a vehicle insurance card, or a binder. If you never file an insurance claim, the piece of paper is all you get for your money, other than peace of mind. It is a big "if" though; most people do not go a lifetime without ever filing a claim. Your auto insurance card will contain the following information:

When you get your insurance card from your insurance company (whether it’s the first card or an update) review the card to see if there are mistakes. If you find one, ask for a new card.[0]

Having proof of insurance shows you have met your state's car insurance requirements & financial responsibility laws.
"Proof of insurance" is just what it sounds like: It's
a record showing you meet your state's requirements for vehicle insurance. Requirements vary from state to state, but nearly all states require that you demonstrate some form of financial responsibility.
Probably the most common way to show proof of insurance is to
use the insurance card your provider gives you when you purchase coverage. (This is the little card most drivers store in their glove compartments.)
You can show this information by logging into your account with the insurance company (using electronic means such as a smart phone app or laptop) and presenting it to the officer.
NOTE: These are just common options but not necessarily applicable to each insurance provider or state; check with your insurance company and your state's motor vehicle agency for options specific to your state, just in case.

Let’s take a minute, though, to look at the many important pieces of information you can find on your card. After all, it’s your passport to care and coverage, so you should know what all of the fields of information really mean.
The descriptions below apply to most private health insurance ID cards in the United States. If you live outside the U.S. or have government-provided insurance, you may see some different fields on your card. This is the name of your insurance company and one or more ways to reach them, like their website and phone numbers for customer service or other specific needs. Some of this information may be on the back of the card.
If you are the policyholder, your name will be on the card. If you have dependents—like a spouse or children—on your health insurance policy, their names might be listed on your card, too. If you are not the policyholder, then your card may show your name and the policyholder’s name in separate fields.

Most people keep a copy of their car insurance policy or card somewhere in their vehicle. That way, it’s always available in case of an accident or traffic stop. If someone else has been keeping up with your car insurance for you, chances are they may have placed your documentation in your car too.
When will I receive my insurance cards?

Insurance Carriers
ID card, member id, medical card, pharmacy card, card, insurance card, reorder card, lost card
If your insurance carrier sends out physical ID cards, you will typically receive them approximately 7-14 days after your application has been approved. If your company is currently going through Open Enrollment, your insurance carriers may not send out new cards until 30 days after the effective date for your new plan.
Most insurance carriers send out physical ID cards for medical coverage, but in many cases you won't receive a card for dental or vision. This is because you are able to use your SSN in place of your member ID number.
Some insurance carriers (such as Aetna) are stopping the practice of sending out physical ID cards. You are able to access a digital ID card by creating an account on their member portal.

Your Insurance Carrier
Learn about the many secrets your health insurance providers do not want you to know about your employee benefits plan.
The answer is always not yet (even though the carrier absolutely knows the renewal rates at this point) but we should have it within a month. Thirty days later you receive your renewal and it comes with a 15% increase.
Your broker returns and says “I have good news, I got the carrier to agree to reduce the increase to 11% and if you would consider changing carriers, we can even get it to 8%! If you don’t want to switch carriers, we can make a few plan tweaks, a slight increase in deductibles and co-pays and maybe add a High Deductible Plan option and we can still get it to 8% keeping the current carrier in place. That would require much less work on your part”.
When pressed for answers, carriers and brokers provide the standard company lines like medical trend and a few high claimants but the reality is most of the time the answers you’re given are nonsense.
You would be shocked to learn that what they are telling you is a bad year and abnormally high claims, may in fact be “normal” given a group of your size.
