Insurance helps bring peace of mind to your life and protects you and your family from financial loss in the worst of circumstances. All types of insurance plans, including life, home, and auto, come with a choice of various levels of protection and benefits. Choosing the incorrect type of insurance or selecting an amount of coverage that is too small can have difficult consequences. Fortunately, understanding your insurance needs is simpler than it seems.
Decide if you need life insurance. While life insurance is important, not everybody needs it. The purpose of life insurance is to cover immediate expenses at death, as well to replace your income and provide for your family or dependents should something happen to you. Therefore, if you are single and/or have no children, life insurance is a costly and likely unnecessary solution.[1]

If you have significant a-sets, life insurance may not be necessary as well. The key question is "Do I have the means now to ensure my family is taken care of should something happen to me?" If the answer is no, consider insurance.
Even if you are single, you may consider minimal insurance to cover final expenses (cost of a funeral, etc.) if you don't think you have enough other a-sets to cover these costs.
How to estimate your expected income and count household members | HealthCare.gov
Find out if you qualify for lower costs on Marketplace health insurance coverage at HealthCare.gov.
Income is counted for you, your spouse, and everyone you'll claim as a tax dependent on your federal tax return (if the dependents are required to file). Include their income even if they don’t need health coverage. See details on who to include in your household.
If your income is hard to predict, base your estimate on your past experience, recent trends, what you know about possible changes at your workplace, and similar information. If the job is new to you, ask people in the same field or in the same company about their experiences.
The Heath Insurance Marketplace uses an income figure called Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) to determine the programs and savings you qualify for. For most people, it’s identical or very close to Adjusted Gross Income (AGI). MAGI is not a line on your federal tax return.
If anyone in your household has coverage through a job-based plan, a plan they bought themselves, a public program like Medicaid, CHIP, or Medicare, or another source, include them and their income on your application.
When you apply you’ll say which household members need coverage.
Report income and household changes on your Marketplace insurance application as soon as possible. If you don’t, you could wind up with the wrong amount of savings or even the wrong insurance plan. Learn how to update your income during the year.

Your total costs for health care: Premium, deductible, and out-of-pocket costs | HealthCare.gov
When choosing a plan, it’s a good idea to think about your total health care costs, not just the bill (the premium”) you pay to your insurance company every month.
In order to pick a plan based on your total costs of care, you’ll need to estimate the medical services you’ll use for the year ahead. Of course it’s impossible to predict the exact amount. So think about how much care you usually use, or are likely to use.
Before you compare plans when you’re logged in to HealthCare.gov or preview plans and prices before you log in, you can choose each family member’s expected medical use as low, medium, or high.
When you compare plans in the Marketplace, the plans appear in 4 “metal” categories: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. The categories are based on how you and the health plan share the total costs of your care.
Generally speaking, categories with higher premiums (Gold, Platinum) pay more of your total costs of health care. Categories with lower premiums (Bronze, Silver) pay less of your total costs. (But see the exception about Silver plans below.)
If you don’t expect to use regular medical services and don’t take regular prescriptions: You may want a Bronze plan. These plans can have very low monthly premiums, but have high deductibles and pay less of your costs when you need care.

The Health Insurance Marketplace Calculator is based on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as signed into law in 2010, and subsequent regulations issued by Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The calculator includes subsidy increases for 2022 in the American Rescue Plan Act (ARP) of 2021.
Premiums displayed in the calculator’s results are based on actual exchange premiums in 2022 dollars. Premiums were obtained through data published by HHS, data received from Massachusetts Health Connector, and data collected from state-based exchanges by KFF researchers. The silver premium is the second-lowest cost silver premium available in the county of the entered zip code and the bronze premium shown is the lowest-cost bronze plan in the county of the entered zip code. Not all plans are available in all parts of the county, so actual premiums may vary depending on plan availability. Premiums shown are the premium portion used for Essential Health Benefits. Actual premiums may be higher if plans include "non-essential benefits" such as dental or vision care.
The premium is adjusted for family size and age of the user. Premiums in the calculator vary by age within the three to one limit specified in the law, using age factors from proposed regulations issued by HHS (or, state specific age factors where states have adopted them). The calculator does not display a tobacco surcharge. However, in most states, insurers can charge a tobacco surcharge of up to 50% of your total premium, and tax credits do not apply to the surcharge. Actual tobacco surcharges will vary by plan and some states do not permit insurers to vary premiums by tobacco status.
How to Calculate Business Income for Insurance | The Hartford
When you have a business owner's policy, it's vital to know how to calculate business income for insurance. Learn how to calculate business income for insurance with The Hartford’s tips and determine what steps to take to make sure your business income insurance is appropriate for your business.
Typically, the business income covered is classified as taxable income. This includes any income that results from business activity. For example, say your business’s building is damaged by a fire. Business income insurance can help pay for lost income while your business is shut down. It can also help cover additional expenses you face while shut down. For some, an extra expense may arise if you are forced to move your location after a covered loss.
Taxes. For example, say your small business suffers damages that force you to temporarily close right before your tax payments are due. Your business income insurance can help cover the costs.
Utilities. For example, say you need to pay for utilities for the next two months while your business is being repaired. However, you can’t open your operation until after the repairs are finished. Your business income insurance can step in and help pay for your utility bills.
Lost profits. For example, say your business suffers a major financial loss after being forced to shut down during the holiday season. Your business income insurance can help cover your lost income.
Advertising. For example, say you owe advertising payments to the company that built your new advertising campaign. However, you recently had to close down your operation to repair damages. Your business income insurance can help cover these advertising costs until you are able to open your business up and make a profit again. Advertising costs may also arise if you must move your business’s location after enduring a covered loss.
How to Get Insurance to Pay for Your Roof Replacement in 2022
Find out how to get your homeowner's insurance to pay for the roof damage claim. The ultimate guide to maximizing your success rate.
Many homeowners who have been through the nightmare of having to deal with the roof damage and trying to get their claim approved by the insurance company will agree that, sometimes, it can be very difficult to get a claim paid.
So, how do you get your insurance company to pay for a roof replacement? The answer involves a combination of information, preparation, documentation and hiring a professional roofer to work on your behalf.
Most of us don’t read the fine print of the policy until something goes wrong. Now is the time to do that. If you don’t have a copy of the policy, a common problem, request one from your agent. A paper copy or electronic file should be made available promptly.
Replacement policies are more common, though they do cost more. Replacement coverage provides for returning the roof to a brand-new condition when an event that is covered by the insurance policy takes place.
Repair coverage usually takes into consideration depreciation of the roof. This means you will get a percentage of the replacement cost based on the roof’s material and age. It could be as low as 15% for a roof near the end of its service life.

How to Estimate Your Car Insurance Costs: Calculator - ValuePenguin
Category:
Insurance You
ValuePenguin's calculator helps you quickly estimate your car insurance costs and coverage needs. Determining how much auto insurance you need can be difficult, but not having enough coverage after an accident can be disastrous.
Local companies like Erie and Auto-Owners often have the cheapest car insurance rates, but they are not available in every state. National insurers such as State Farm and Geico are available in all states and tend to offer cheaper-than-average rates.
To estimate the cost of car insurance, you first need to decide what kinds of coverage you need. Aside from your state's minimum requirements, the amount of coverage you should choose depends on your budget, your car’s value and a trade-off between how much you pay in car insurance premiums and the level of protection you want.
Additionally, your car insurance needs might change if you experience a life event such as moving to a new state or paying off a financed vehicle. You should regularly review your auto insurance coverage to determine if you need to increase your coverage limits or if you're paying for unnecessary coverage.
The most expensive insurance protections are bodily injury liability, collision coverage and comprehensive coverage. Before deciding which insurance coverage to add, you should know the approximate cost estimates for each coverage type.
Uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage covers your medical bills if you are in an accident caused by an uninsured or underinsured motorist. It can also cover lost wages and pay for services you can no longer perform yourself, such as cleaning your house or babysitting. There are 20 states that require uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
