NJ Cop Fired for Brutal Home Invasion Against Ex-Boyfriend and His Girlfriend

A New Jersey police officer who went on a violent rampage at her ex-boyfriend’s home, attacking him and his new girlfriend, has been permanently banned from ever working in law enforcement in the Garden State.

Former Toms River Police Officer Rebecca Sayegh, 32, pleaded guilty on Nov. 17 to burglary, criminal mischief, and simple assault, after breaking into her ex-boyfriend’s home in Berkeley this past April, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

As part of her guilty plea, Sayegh has officially surrendered her position with the Toms River Township Police Department—and forfeited any chance of ever holding public employment again in New Jersey.

Sayegh had been suspended without pay leading up to November’s ruling.

Prosecutors are seeking a sentence that would require Sayegh to serve 180 days in the Ocean County Jail as part of her probation, stay away from the victims, and pay restitution, officials said.

Sayegh’s guilty plea stems from a violent rampage on the night of April 25, when she used her baton to smash through the front door of her ex-boyfriend’s home around 11:20 p.m., confronting him and his new girlfriend, NJ.com reported.

The off-duty officer—who had lived with her ex-boyfriend for five years—got into an argument with the couple before shoving and pushing them both.

During the altercation, the victims tried to restrain Sayegh, but she broke free, ransacked the home, and even damaged the hood of one victim’s car, prosecutors said.

As Sayegh’s chaotic rampage unfolded, the new girlfriend fled to the backyard and called 911.

Sayegh also tried to fight with the responding officers and resisted arrest.

Once police finally restrained her, Sayegh threatened to set her ex-boyfriend’s house on fire as they escorted her down the driveway, NJ.com reported.

The ex-cop caused an estimated $2,000 in damage to the home and another $500 to one victim’s car, prosecutors told the outlet.

Despite her arrest, Sayegh was released from the Ocean County Jail under New Jersey’s bail reform system.

After nine years on the force, she was also suspended without pay from the Toms River Township Police Department.

She is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 26, 2026.

Sayegh’s guilty plea comes after she filed a lawsuit last year against the department and township, alleging that former Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little and other supervisors sexually harassed her and denied her promotions because of her gender.
