‘Are You Kidding Me?’ Florida Teen Charged After Taking a Shovel to a Cop Car

In Florida, a 15-year-old girl was caught on camera fearlessly slamming a metal shovel onto a police cruiser’s hood—while an officer sat inside. Now, she’s facing a felony charge.

Amy Chance was arrested in a quiet Port St. Lucie neighborhood on Nov. 3 after police responded to a disturbance at her family’s home allegedly sparked by the teen, authorities said in a press release.

Newly released bodycam video captures the tense moment a shovel-wielding teen stood in the middle of a Port St. Lucie street and moved toward an officer sitting in his patrol car.

She’s seen hammering the cruiser again and again — without ever having exchanged a single word with the officer inside.

“Are you kidding me?” the stunned officer blurts out before jumping from his car, Taser in hand, and shouting for the 15-year-old to drop the shovel.

The teen locks eyes with the officer, Taser aimed squarely at her, before reluctantly letting go of the shovel.

After flipping off the officer, Chance begins to walk away — only for him to quickly catch up and command her to halt.

“Get on the f—king ground,” the officer commanded, his tone steady yet stern, as he spun Chance around, made her kneel on the pavement, and secured the handcuffs.

Officials reported that the teen was arrested without resistance, ending the confrontation quietly.

The teen now faces a felony criminal mischief charge after smashing the patrol car, leaving more than $1,200 in damage.

"Regardless of age, resorting to intentional damage of people or property in our city will result in an arrest," the Port St. Lucie Police Department warned in its press release.

Questions remain over why police were called to Chance’s home — and what drove her to attack the police cruiser.

Nearly two months ago, a California officer shot and killed a man who lunged at him with a shovel in broad daylight outside an Anaheim elementary school — a chilling incident that echoes the recent arrest of the 15-year-old.

At approximately 12:45 p.m. on Sept. 15, police were called to investigate a suspicious man, seemingly under the influence, who was armed with a brick and a shovel.

Upon seeing the patrol car across the intersection, 36-year-old Rudy Anthony Martinez II charged at it, wielding a shovel in his hands.

The officer had barely stepped out of his cruiser when the man started swinging the shovel, dashcam footage reveals.

Amid the attack, the officer yelled at Martinez to “sit down,” warning he would be shot if he didn’t stop. Terrified for his life, the officer fired two warning shots — yet Martinez continued his charge.

The officer fired at the crazed man with the shovel, and Martinez succumbed to his injuries roughly 30 minutes after reaching the hospital.
