Philadelphia Insurance announced that its operations have been fully restored after experiencing a network outage.
“We have resumed regular operations, though we continue to address minor technical issues as they arise,” the company said in an update regarding the network outage that began on June 9.
Philadelphia Insurance proactively shut down its systems on June 9 after detecting suspicious activity, in an effort to contain the threat. The outage disrupted phone, email, and online application services.
Philadelphia said that “contrary to media reports, no systems were encrypted, and this was not a ransomware event.”
Philadelphia stated that if it confirms any customer data was accessed, it will notify all individuals whose information was affected.
The insurer expressed its gratitude to customers, agents, and brokers for their continued support during the recent network outage. “We fully understand how much you, our customers and trusted partners, rely on our company, and we take that responsibility very seriously,” the announcement said.
Philadelphia Insurance Companies provides a range of commercial property and casualty, as well as professional liability insurance solutions. It operates as a member of the Tokio Marine Group.
Meanwhile, Erie Insurance reported progress in restoring several business systems and applications as part of its ongoing recovery from the recent network outage.
“We are making consistent progress toward resuming normal operations and have safely and securely reconnected key business systems and applications, including online account access for customers,” Erie said i its latest update on June 27.
The insurer stated that the network and system shutdown initiated on June 7 was effective in containing the threat. According to the insurer, “there is no evidence of ransomware and no indication of ongoing threat actor activity.”
Erie has also not acknowledged any data breach but said it is “working diligently to identify what, if any, data may have been affected.” The investigation of what it is calling a “security incident” is ongoing.
