    National Savings Certificates (NSC)
    NSC is a fixed-income investment scheme offering guaranteed returns and tax savings. Investments up to Rs 1.5 lakh in a financial year are eligible for deduction. In this scheme, you can invest as low as Rs 1,000, and there is no upper limit; however, Rs 1.5 lakh qualifies for a deduction under 80C. The tenure of NSC is five years. Interest earned is taxable but can be reinvested for tax benefits in the first four years.

    The interest rate on NSC for the January-March 2025 quarter is 7.7% compounded annually but payable at maturity.

    Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY)
    The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is a government-backed scheme for girl children, offering high returns with tax benefits. The amount invested is tax-exempt. The minimum investment to be made is Rs 250, and the maximum is Rs 1.5 lakh per year. Investments up to Rs 1.5 lakh are deductible under Section 80C. Interest earned is tax-free, and maturity proceeds are tax-free. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is an EEE (Exempt, Exempt, Exempt) category investment, which means that the investments, interest, and maturity amount are all tax-free.

    The interest rate on SSY for the January-March 2025 quarter is 8.2%, calculated on an annual basis, yearly compounded.

    Senior Citizens’ Savings Scheme (SCSS)
    The Senior Citizens’ Savings Scheme (SCSS) is a government-backed retirement savings scheme offering high returns and tax benefits. The minimum investment to be made is Rs 1,000, and the maximum investment limit is Rs 30 lakh. Investment up to Rs 1.5 lakh qualifies for deduction under Section 80C. Interest earned is taxable.
    The interest rate on SCSS for the January-March 2025 quarter is 8.2% per annum.

    Post Office Time Deposit (POTD)
    Investments up to Rs 1.5 lakh in a financial year are eligible for deduction on a 5-year POTD scheme under 80C but interest earned is taxable. The minimum investment required is Rs 1,000, with no upper limit. However, there is no tax benefit under Section 80C on POTD with less than 5 years of tenure.

    The interest rate on Post Office Time Deposit (5 year) for the January-March 2025 quarter is 7.5% (interest payable annually but calculated quarterly).
