The requirement for an employee to submit online transfer claims via the previous or current employer has been removed for specified cases listed below.
According to the EPFO circular issued on January 15, 2025, in the following cases online account transfer requests need not necessarily be routed via past or present employer.
“Transfers between Member IDs linked with the same UAN, where the UAN was allotted on or after 01/10/2017 and linked with Aadhaar.
Transfers between Member IDs linked with different UANs, where such UANs were allotted on or after 01/10/2017 and linked with the same Aadhaar.
Transfers between Member IDs linked with the same UAN, where the UAN was allotted prior to 01/10/2017, is linked with Aadhaar, and the name, date of birth (DOB), and gender are identical across the Member IDs.
Transfers between Member IDs linked with different UANs, where atleast one of the UANs was allotted prior to 01/10/2017, is linked with the same Aadhaar, and the name, DOB, and gender are identical across the Member IDs.”

This means in below cases, employee can submit transfer claim directly:
Transfers within the same UAN (UAN issued on or after 01/10/2017)
If the same UAN (Universal Account Number) is linked to multiple Member IDs and is linked to Aadhaar.
Transfers between different UANs (both issued on or after 01/10/2017)
If an employee has multiple UANs linked to the same Aadhaar, the system identifies them as belonging to the same person, allowing seamless transfer without employer involvement.
Transfers within the same UAN (UAN issued before 01/10/2017)
For older UANs, the PF transfer works if the UAN is linked to Aadhaar and the name, date of birth (DOB), and gender match across Member IDs.
Transfers between different UANs (at least one issued before 01/10/2017)
Transfers between multiple UANs (one older) are allowed if both UANs are linked to the same Aadhaar and personal details (name, DOB, gender) match.
In all cases, linking the UAN to Aadhaar and ensuring consistent personal details enables faster PF transfers without employer verification.
What is UAN?
A Universal Account Number (UAN) is a 12-digit number that's assigned to each employee who contributes to the Employee Provident Fund (EPF). The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) issues the UAN.
How to link EPF UAN with Aadhaar on EPFO portal
Step 1: Visit member e-sewa website and log in to your EPF account using the UAN login credentials.Step 2: Click on the KYC option under the ‘manage’ menu.
Step 4: Select Aadhaar and enter your Aadhaar details.
Step 5: Click on save.
Step 6: Your Aadhaar will be validated using UIDAI data.
Step 7: After successful completion of KYC, the Aadhaar will be linked to the EPF account.
