ITR filing: CBDT sending emails for mismatches in ITR, AIS, high-value transactions, not filing ITR for these years The CBDT is sending email and SMS notifications to taxpayers and non-filers, highlighting discrepancies and encouraging them to file updated or late ITRs for FY 2023-24 by December 31, 2024
To help taxpayers reconcile discrepancies between the income and transactions reported in the Annual Information Statement (AIS) and those revealed in Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the fiscal years 2023–2024 and 2021–2022 the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has started an electronic campaign.#sr_widget.onDemand p, #stock_pro.onDemand p{font-size: 14px;line-height: 1.28;} .onDemand .live_stock{left:17px;padding:1px 3px 1px 5px;font-size:12px;font-weight:600;line-height:18px;top:9px} #sr_widget.onDemand .sr_desc{margin:0 auto 0;} #sr_widget.onDemand .sr_desc{color: #024d99;margin-top:10px;} #sr_widget.onDemand .crypto .live_stock .lb-icon{8px 6px 5px 3px !important} #sr_widget.crypto.onDemand a.text{border-bottom:1px solid #ccc;padding-bottom:5px;display:block;width:100%} #sr_widget.onDemand .sr_desc .text p, #stock_pro.onDemand .sr_desc .text p{font-size:12px;font-weight:400;} In a press release dated December 17, 2024, the Ministry of Finance said, "People who have taxable income or major high-value transactions recorded in their AIS but have not filed ITRs for the relevant years are likewise the target of this campaign. The e-Verification Scheme, 2021, is being implemented in part via this endeavour."
How will CBDT reach out to taxpayers in case of mismatch or for not filing ITR?
The tax department has sent information messages via email and SMS as part of this campaign to taxpayers and non-filers under the campaign, pointing out discrepancies between the ITRs filed and the transactions registered in AIS.The purpose of these communications is to remind and direct individuals who may not have disclosed all of their income in their ITRs to file updated or late ITRs for FY 2023–2024. The deadline for submitting these late or revised ITRs is December 31, 2024.
What is the limitation date for cases about FY 2021-22?
For cases about FY 2021-22, taxpayers can file updated ITRs by the limitation date of March 31, 2025.Entrepreneurship
