However, crypto is about more than just BTC and people have been waiting longer than usual for the altcoin season, which seems to be beginning. One way to see this is through the historical patterns; a decrease in Bitcoin dominance signals investors taking profits and rotating into altcoins and this traditionally comes after a big BTC pump.
For the last few years, investor confidence in crypto has been shaken following multiple instances of fraud, and SEC indictments against Sam Bankman-Fried headlined FTX, once a darling of the crypto world.
The Republican party’s pro-crypto stance potentially marks the beginning of more crypto-friendly policies. The currencies that were under scrutiny by the SEC, such as XRP, have soared to their highest heights since 2021. XRP is up by 100% this week and 430% this month, flipping Solana to become the third-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation.

In addition to a more favourable stance on crypto, Trump’s talk of a Bitcoin National Reserve to help tackle US debt and the release of the DeFi-related project World Liberty Finance show the president's bullish stance.
This cycle is different
XRP, once touted as the crypto for banks who wanted to leverage blockchain, has now risen thanks to this renewed interest in DeFi. Coins such as DOGE have mooned thanks to Trump’s links with Elon Musk.
Institutional investors are already on board thanks to the Spot ETFs, but what about retail? That’s where the likes of Doge and Cutoshi come in, with the latter combining the usefulness of DeFi with the meme appeal of Dogecoin.
