PAN 2.0: How to apply and get a new PAN on your email ID? Here is a step-by-step guide This facility can be used if the correct email address is updated in income tax records

The income tax department has clarified that existing PAN cards of taxpayers and individuals are valid even without the QR code under the PAN 2.0 project. Allotment, updation or correction of PAN will be done free of cost and e-PAN will be sent to the registered mail id. For a physical PAN card, the applicant has to make a request along with the prescribed fee of Rs 50 (domestic). For delivery of PAN card outside India, Rs. 15 + India post charges at actuals will be charged for the applicant, according to the income tax FAQs. Though the PAN 2.0 project is yet to commence, taxpayers and individuals currently can get their PAN on their email ID. If there is no email ID registered in the income tax database, then taxpayers can update the email address in the income tax database under the PAN 2.0 project for free.

Step-by-step guide to apply and get a new PAN on your email

Before applying to get the PAN on your email, a taxpayer must check whether their PAN is issued by NSDL or UTI Infrastructure and Technology and Services Ltd. (UTIITSL). This is mentioned on the back of your PAN card. Depending on the issuer, a taxpayer must follow the steps to get PAN on email or in digital form.

Step 1: Go to the link: https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/requestAndDownloadEPAN.html
Step 2: On the webpage, enter the following information: PAN, Aadhaar (Only for individual), date of birth.

    Step 3: Once the required information is entered, select the applicable tick boxes and click on submit.

    Step 4: A new webpage will open on your screen where you must check your current details as updated with the income tax department. You will be asked to select the option where you wish you get one time password (OTP).

    Step 5: Enter the OTP and validate the details. Remember the OTP is valid for 10 minutes.

    According to Protean website, "For the PAN applications submitted to Protean where PAN is allotted or changes are confirmed by ITD within last 30 days, e-PAN card can be delivered on email ID registered in PAN application free of cost three times." If you have exhausted the limit, you can continue with the paid facility. The protean charges Rs 8.26/- (including GST) to deliver PAN on your email.

    Step 6: Select the mode of payment. Select the tick box for agreeing to terms and conditions. Select 'Proceed to Payment' option.

    Step 8: Once the payment is made, click on continue.

    Step 9: Once the payment is successful, the PAN will be delivered to the email ID as updated in the income tax database.

    It can take up to 30 minutes to receive the PAN on your registered email ID. If you do not receive the PAN on your email ID, you can send an email to [email protected] with the payment details. Alternatively, taxpayer can also call their customer care at 020 - 27218080 or 020 - 27218081.

    For UTIITSL PAN
    Step 1: https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/PAN_ONLINE/ePANCard.
    Step 2: Enter the details - PAN, date of birth and captcha code and click on submit.
    Once the details are submitted, the website will show if there is an email ID registered. If there is no email ID registered, then taxpayers can update their email ID under PAN 2.0 free of cost once it commences.

    The steps to download e-PAN from UTIITSL are similar to those mentioned above. According to UTIITSL website, "The ePAN will be send only on the eMail ID available as per PAN records with Income Tax Department. The Applicants will receive their e-PAN in PDF form "free of cost" only if their e-PAN was issued within last one month. For requests received after one month of last issuance of their e-PAN, the Applicant shall have to make an online payment of Rs.8.26 (inclusive of taxes) against every request of their e-PAN."
