AIS mobile app: How taxpayers can register, set up MPIN to view Annual Information Statement

To make it easier for taxpayers to access their information as it is available in the Annual Information Statement (AIS)/Taxpayer Information Summary, the Income Tax Department has released a mobile app called "AIS for Taxpayer" (TIS).
The Income Tax Department launched a free mobile app called "AIS for Taxpayer" that can be downloaded from Google Play and the App Store. The app's objective is to provide the taxpayer a complete perspective of the AIS/TIS, which shows the data gathered from multiple sources on the taxpayer.

What can be viewed in the ‘AIS for Taxpayer’ mobile app

The mobile app allows taxpayers to examine information from AIS/TIS that is available on TDS/TCS, interest, dividends, share transactions, tax payments, income tax refunds, and other information (GST Data, Foreign Remittances, etc.). Also, the taxpayer has the option to provide feedback on the data shown by the app.

How to download AIS for Taxpayer App

The taxpayer must register on the app by entering their PAN number and authenticate using the OTP issued to their registered email and cellphone number on the e-filing portal in order to access this mobile app. Once the authentication is complete, the taxpayer can easily create a 4-digit PIN to use the mobile app.

According to the Income tax website, “From AY 2023-24 onwards, Form 26 AS display only TDS/TCS data. Other taxes like advance tax, Self-assessment tax, refund etc., would be available in AIS (Annual information statement).”

How to register and set MPIN for AIS for Taxpayer App in mobile

Taxpayer needs to be registered on e-filing portal to register on AIS mobile application.
Step 1: Download the ‘AIS for Taxpayer from google play or playstore
Step 2: Onboarding screens will be visible from which user can scroll through by tapping “Next” or skip the screens by tapping “Skip”.
Step 3: Tap on “Get Started” available on the last onboarding screen.
Step 4: To begin the verification process, enter your PAN and the date of your birth/incorporation/formation, check the box next to the terms and conditions.

Step 5: Enter primary mobile number and primary email address (same as per e-filing portal).

Step 6: Pop up will appear. Click on “Confirm” to view next screen. Separate OTPs will be shared on primary mobile number and primary email address. Enter the OTPs received and click “Verify”.

Step 6: When both OTPs are correctly entered, the MPIN set up page will open. Enter your 4-digit MPIN and click "Next."
Note: User will be allowed only 5 attempts to correctly enter the OTPs received. If the user is unable to enter the correct OTP till the permitted attempts, user account will be locked for 24 hours.
Step 7: Post re-entering the MPIN, click on “Confirm” button to confirm the setup of MPIN.

Step 8: On successful setup of MPIN, user will be successfully registered, and user can login using the selected MPIN.

How to login view AIS in mobile
Step 1: User can login by entering the self-selected MPIN that was created during registration.
Step 2: User is successfully logged in to the AIS Mobile Application.

Please keep in mind that the user will only have five attempts to input the MPIN correctly. If the user is unable to enter the right MPIN after the number of attempts allowed, the user account will be locked for 24 hours. To avoid account locking, the user can use forgot MPIN to reset the MPIN as indicated below.
Step 3: Tap on AIS tile to view AIS and TIS. A disclaimer pop-up appears. Click on “Ok”
Step 4: Select Financial year from tab (Present above the AIS Section) for which the AIS is to be viewed.

Step 5: View Annual Information statement (AIS) section to view AIS details.

What is Annual Information Statement (AIS)?
The Annual Information Statement (AIS) is a complete view of a taxpayer's information provided in Form 26AS. Taxpayers can submit feedback on AIS information. For each section, AIS displays both the reported value and the updated value (i.e. value after considering taxpayer feedback) under each section (i.e. TDS, SFT, Other information).

What are the objectives of AIS?
The objectives of AIS are:
• Display complete information to the taxpayer with a facility to capture online feedback
• Promote voluntary compliance and enable seamless prefilling of return
• Deter non-compliance (“For more info. navigate to AIS under Services Menu after login”).
